Lone Wolf New Order

Privacy Policy

The short version

Lone Wolf New Order is a free, fan-made gamebook app. There are no adverts, no advertising identifiers, and nothing about you is ever sold or rented. What the app does collect, it collects to keep your adventure safe across devices and to find out which parts of the game are breaking or being abandoned.

  • You can read all nine books without signing in, without an account, and offline.
  • If you sign in with Google or Apple — needed for savegame backup and community stats — the app receives your name and email address from that provider.
  • The app reports usage events and crashes to Google Firebase, and stores savegames and gameplay statistics on its own server.
  • You can have your account and everything stored under it deleted by asking, at the address at the bottom of this page.

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the application Lone Wolf New Order (package com.lonewolf.neworder), distributed through Google Play, and to this website. The app is an independent tribute to Joe Dever's Lone Wolf series, built with book data from Project Aon.

This website itself is a static page. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no third-party scripts or fonts — visiting it leaves nothing behind in your browser.

Permissions the app asks for

The app declares two Android permissions, and only two:

  • INTERNET — to download book content, back up savegames, and reach the services described below.
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — to check whether you are online before attempting any of that.

The advertising-ID permission that Google's libraries would otherwise add is explicitly removed from the app's manifest. There is no permission for location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, storage outside the app's own folder, or your call or message history, so none of it can be read. Book content is downloaded once from cloud storage; after that, reading works with no connection at all.

What stays on your device

Your adventure is kept in a database in the app's own private storage: reading profiles and progress, your Action Chart, Backpack and gold, journey log, map position, lifetime statistics, and preferences such as the dark or light theme. If you sign in, your name, email address, and account identifier are also stored there so the session survives a restart.

Unless you sign in or a crash occurs, this is where it all stays.

Signing in

Signing in is optional and the books are fully playable without it. It is required only for savegame backup and for contributing to community statistics.

Sign-in uses Google on Android and Apple on iOS, through Firebase Authentication. The provider returns your account identifier, display name, and email address, which the app stores on your device and uses to authenticate you with its server. The app never sees your password, and it cannot read your mail, contacts, or files. Signing in creates an account on the app's server, identified by that account identifier.

Savegame backup

So a lost or replaced phone does not cost you a nine-book campaign, signed-in players can back up savegames to the app's server. A backup contains game data only — progress, character, items, completed books — stored under your account identifier so it can be restored to a new device.

You can delete an individual backed-up profile from within the app, and you can have every backup held for you removed by asking at the address below.

Gameplay events

The app records gameplay events — milestones such as creating a character or finishing a book, and failures such as a savegame that would not load — and sends them to its server in batches. They are what makes it possible to tell that a particular book is crashing or that an adventure tends to stall in a particular place.

When you are signed in, these events reach the server with your account, because the request is authenticated. They describe what happened in the game, never anything you typed or anything about you outside it.

Community choices

Finish a book and the app can show you what other players chose at the story's turning points. Signed-in players contribute to those totals: the sections you visited, how a death happened (the cause, the enemy, the combat ratio, the number of rounds), and a completion summary with gold spent and items collected.

These contributions are authenticated, so they arrive at the server attached to your account rather than anonymously. They are only ever displayed as aggregate percentages across all players — no other player can see what you chose. Reading the community screens requires no account and contributes nothing.

Analytics

Released versions of the app use Google Firebase Analytics to record the same kind of gameplay milestones and error events described above. Firebase assigns its own app instance identifier and collects standard technical information such as device model, operating-system version, and country.

If you are signed in, your account identifier is set as the analytics user ID, which links those events to your account. Analytics data is used to understand how the app is used and to improve it, and is not used for advertising or shared with advertisers.

Crash reports

Released versions use Google Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes or hits a handled error, a report is sent automatically containing the technical detail of the failure, the device and operating-system version, and context about the current playthrough and character, so the fault can be reproduced. If you are signed in, your account identifier is attached to it.

Crash reports exist to fix the app and nothing else. They contain gameplay and diagnostic information, not the contents of your device.

Google Play Games Services

Achievements are handled by Google Play Games Services. Signing in there gives the app your Play Games player ID and gamer tag — the public gaming profile you already control — so achievements can be recorded against it. This is separate from the sign-in above and equally optional; declined, the app plays the same and only achievements go unrecorded.

The app may also ask Google Play to show its standard in-app review prompt. Whether you rate it, and what you write, is between you and Google Play.

Exporting a character

A Grand Master who survives Book 29 can be carried into the printed Books 30–32 by exporting your character to the Lone Wolf Action Chart app. This happens only when you ask for it, and it transfers only your character sheet: disciplines, statistics, weapons, and items. That is a separate app by a different developer, so once your character arrives there, its own privacy policy applies.

Who else handles your data

  • Google — Firebase Authentication, Analytics, and Crashlytics; Play Games Services; Google Play; and the cloud storage that book content is downloaded from. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, on iOS only. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Microsoft Azure — hosts the app's own server, where savegame backups, gameplay events, and community statistics are stored.

These providers operate internationally, so data may be processed outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area.

What the app never does

  • It shows no adverts and contains no advertising SDK.
  • It does not use your Android Advertising ID — that permission is removed from the app outright.
  • It does not track you across other apps or websites.
  • It does not sell or rent your data to anyone.
  • It does not read your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or messages.
  • It charges nothing and takes no payment details — the app is free, with no in-app purchases.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and knowingly collects nothing from them. It can be played in full without signing in, which is the only route by which a name or email address reaches it at all. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, write to the address below and it will be deleted.

Your choices and deleting your data

  • Play without an account: skip sign-in. No backup, no community contributions, no account — and all nine books.
  • Sign out: from the app's settings, at any time.
  • Delete a playthrough: remove a reading profile in the app; its backup is deleted from the server with it.
  • Delete everything on your device: clearing the app's storage in Android Settings, or uninstalling it, removes all local data.
  • Delete your account: write to the address below and your account, savegame backups, and the events and statistics recorded under it will be deleted.
  • Play Games: sign out in the app, and manage or delete your gaming profile at myaccount.google.com.

Aggregate community totals cannot be unpicked once your contribution has been added to them, because what remains is a count, with nothing in it that points back to you.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or the CCPA to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data held about you, or to object to its processing. Write to the address below and your request will be answered.

Retention and security

Local game data is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. Savegame backups and account data are kept until you delete the profile or ask for the account to be removed. Gameplay events, analytics, and crash reports are kept only as long as they are useful for diagnosing and improving the app; Firebase data is subject to Google's own retention settings. Everything sent over the network travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection.

No safeguard is perfect, and no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed absolutely secure.

Changes to this policy

If the app gains a feature that changes how data is handled, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it. This policy always lives at the same address, so a bookmark or a link from the store listing will not go stale.

This version replaces the policy dated 13 August 2023, which predated sign-in, savegame backup, community statistics, Play Games achievements, and Firebase.
